St. John’s Mission & Outreach

At St. John’s we work in conjunction with the Migrant Farmworkers Project https://migrantfarmworkers.ca/ to welcome the Spanish speaking migrant farmworkers who arrive annually to work in the agricultural community in our area, including but not limited to: Flowers, Orchards and Vineyards.

The Rev’d Antonio Illas is our Diocesan Missioner migrantfarmworkers@niagaraanglican.ca who coordinates with us at St. John’s to help with food distribution, Spanish speaking church services and community meals. He also works with the HUB at St. Alban’s parish in Beamsville. On Thursday afternoons they host a Welcome Café, food items, clothing and household items, and bikes are available for pick up. Additionally they offer a Wellness Clinic staffed by members of Quest Community Health Centres https://questchc.ca/

The ministry to the Spanish speaking migrants began in 2013 in the Diocese of Niagara, St. John’s became involved, intentionally, in 2018. This ministry continues to evolve. For the 2023 season, we will be hosting a church service and community meal beginning in May (dates include May 7, June 4, July 14, July 30, and August 27th).
